310S stainless steel centrifugal fan for High Temperature Industrial Applications

When an industrial fan has to work in a high-temperature environment, ordinary Fan Materials may not be enough. Heat changes the way metals behave, affects bearings and motors, and can make a simple ventilation job much more difficult. This is why we developed and manufacture the 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan for applications where heat resistance, stable airflow, and suitable material selection are important.

At Zhejiang Shangyang Industrial Fan Co., Ltd., we manufacture centrifugal fans and other industrial fans for coating systems, kilns, boilers, thermal energy equipment, environmental protection systems, chemical processing, cement production, printing, food processing, and many other applications. Our fan design, manufacturing, and sales teams have around 20 years of experience, so we understand that an industrial fan is rarely just a motor and an impeller.

The working condition matters.

For a 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan, the first thing I want to know is not simply the fan size. I want to know what the fan is handling, how hot the gas is, how much air needs to move, how much pressure the system requires, how long the fan will run, and what kind of equipment is connected before and after the fan.

These details help us decide whether 310S stainless steel is appropriate and how the complete fan should be configured.

310S is an austenitic heat-resistant stainless steel known for good oxidation resistance and strength at elevated temperatures. Outokumpu identifies 310S/4845 as a high-temperature grade with high chromium and nickel content and lists applications such as furnace equipment, heat exchangers, steam boilers, cement equipment, and other high-temperature industrial systems. Its published material data gives a guidance maximum application temperature of about 1050°C for the steel itself under specified conditions. That number should not be treated as the allowable operating temperature of a complete fan, because a fan includes many other components and the actual operating condition must be evaluated separately.

1. What Is a 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan?

A 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan is a centrifugal fan designed with 310S stainless steel for applications where high-temperature material performance is important. The centrifugal fan principle is simple: a rotating impeller takes in gas near the center, moves it outward, and uses the casing to guide the gas toward the discharge outlet.

That basic principle has been used in industrial ventilation for many years. What changes from one application to another is the fan construction, operating point, material, motor, drive system, temperature arrangement, and installation method.

In a normal room ventilation application, the fan may only need to move relatively cool air. In a kiln, furnace, coating line, drying system, or thermal process, the fan may have to handle hot air or process gas. The temperature can affect the casing, impeller, shaft, bearings, seals, motor, and other components.

This is where 310S stainless steel can be useful.

310S belongs to the heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel family. Its relatively high chromium and nickel content gives it good oxidation resistance and useful high-temperature mechanical properties. It is commonly considered for equipment operating at elevated temperatures, including furnace and heat-treatment equipment.

But there is an important point that I always explain to customers: the material's temperature capability is not the same thing as the fan's operating temperature.

If a material supplier gives a high-temperature figure, that does not mean the entire fan can safely operate at that temperature. The motor, bearings, shaft, seals, lubrication, mounting arrangement, thermal expansion, gas composition, and fan structure must all be considered.

For this reason, we select the complete fan based on the actual process condition rather than simply choosing 310S stainless steel because the application is called a "high-temperature application."

This approach is particularly important for customers looking for a high temperature stainless steel centrifugal fan for continuous industrial service.

2. How Does the 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan Work?

The working principle is quite straightforward.

When the motor starts, it turns the fan shaft and impeller. Gas enters through the inlet and reaches the center of the rotating impeller. The rotating blades accelerate the gas and move it toward the outside of the impeller. The gas then enters the fan casing, where the flow direction is controlled and part of its velocity is converted into pressure.

The pressurized gas leaves through the outlet and enters the connected duct or process equipment.

In an industrial system, the fan normally has a job that is bigger than simply "moving air." It must overcome resistance from ductwork, filters, dampers, heat exchangers, scrubbers, dust collectors, process equipment, and other components.

For example, imagine a hot-air drying system. The fan may need to pull air from one part of the process, pass it through a heating section, and then send it through ducts toward the drying chamber. If the duct system is long or contains several bends and pieces of equipment, the fan needs enough pressure to maintain the required airflow.

The same principle applies to kiln exhaust, furnace ventilation, coating exhaust, and industrial thermal systems.

That is why we normally ask customers for both airflow and pressure. Looking at only one of these values can lead to a poor fan selection.

International fan standards also make this distinction clear. ANSI/AMCA 210-25 / ASHRAE 51-25 establishes laboratory methods for determining fan aerodynamic performance in terms of airflow rate, pressure developed, power consumption, air density, rotational speed, and efficiency.

Selection ParameterSimple ExplanationWhy We Need It
AirflowHow much gas the fan needs to moveDetermines the required air-moving capacity
PressureHow strongly the fan needs to push or pullHelps overcome resistance in ducts and equipment
Gas TemperatureTemperature of the air or process gasDirectly affects material and fan configuration
Gas CompositionWhat the fan is actually handlingImportant for material and corrosion selection
Operating TimeHow many hours the fan runsInfluences motor, bearings, cooling, and maintenance
Installation ConditionsHow the fan connects to the systemAffects airflow, pressure, vibration, and maintenance

Source: The performance factors above are consistent with the variables covered by ANSI/AMCA 210-25 / ASHRAE 51-25 and ISO 5801:2017. ISO 5801:2017 provides procedures for determining fan performance using standardized airways and remains the current published edition, with Amendment 1 published in 2025.

There is another detail that is easy to miss. A fan's laboratory performance is not always the same as its performance after installation.

Once the fan is connected to elbows, transitions, dampers, filters, or other equipment, the airflow pattern can change. ISO/TR 16219:2024 specifically discusses system effects and explains that fan performance can degrade between standardized test conditions and actual site conditions depending on the surrounding geometry.

So when we select a fan, we look at the complete system rather than treating the fan as an isolated machine.

3. Why We Use 310S Stainless Steel for High Temperature Fan Applications

The most obvious reason is heat.

310S stainless steel is specifically designed for high-temperature service. According to Outokumpu, 310S/4845 is an austenitic heat-resistant stainless steel with good oxidation resistance, high-temperature corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength at elevated temperatures. The material is associated with applications such as industrial furnace equipment, heat exchangers, steam boilers, cement equipment, and energy-related equipment.

That makes it an interesting material choice for industrial fan applications where ordinary stainless steel grades may not provide the desired high-temperature performance.

Good Resistance to Oxidation

When metal is exposed to high temperatures and oxygen for long periods, oxidation can become a serious issue. 310S is designed to provide good resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures.

For a fan handling hot air, this can be an important advantage because the material is exposed directly to the process environment.

Suitable for High-Temperature Industrial Equipment

310S is already used in high-temperature industrial equipment. That makes it a practical material option for certain fan components in thermal processes.

Typical high-temperature industries include furnace equipment, heat treatment, cement production, energy systems, metal processing, and industrial heating applications.

Good Mechanical Performance at Elevated Temperatures

A material that works well at room temperature may behave differently when it becomes very hot. 310S is designed for elevated-temperature service and offers useful mechanical strength under such conditions.

Still, the actual fan design must consider thermal expansion and the complete operating temperature. A fan impeller that is mechanically strong at room temperature can experience dimensional changes when heated. We therefore need to consider the whole assembly.

Corrosion and Heat Are Not the Same Problem

This is another point worth explaining.

310S is a heat-resistant stainless steel, but customers sometimes assume that this automatically means it is the best choice for every corrosive environment. That is not correct.

Outokumpu notes that optimizing stainless steels for high-temperature service can limit their resistance to aqueous corrosion. In simple terms, a grade designed for hot conditions is not automatically the best grade for every wet chemical environment.

If the fan handles a hot, dry gas, 310S may be a logical material to consider. If the gas is hot, wet, acidic, or contains aggressive chemicals, we need to review the exact process before confirming the material.

4. Main Features of Our 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan

When we manufacture a 310S stainless steel centrifugal fan, we look at more than the material sheet. The fan has to work as a complete machine.

Heat-Resistant Stainless Steel Construction

310S stainless steel is selected for suitable high-temperature applications because it provides good oxidation resistance and retains useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.

This makes it a practical option for hot air circulation, furnace exhaust, kiln systems, heat treatment equipment, and other thermal processes.

Stable Centrifugal Air Movement

The centrifugal structure allows the fan to work with ducted systems where pressure resistance is part of the job. This is useful for industrial exhaust, process ventilation, hot-air circulation, and thermal equipment.

Flexible Fan Configuration

We can configure the fan according to the required airflow, pressure, temperature, material, motor power, drive arrangement, and installation conditions.

This is important because there is no single fan configuration that works for every factory.

Suitable for Standard and Non-Standard Projects

Our factory manufactures both standard and non-standard industrial fans. If a customer needs a special outlet direction, installation size, motor configuration, or other project-specific arrangement, we can review the requirement before manufacturing.

Attention to Rotating Components

A centrifugal fan contains a rotating impeller, so balance and assembly quality matter. Excessive vibration can affect bearings, the motor, connected ductwork, and the overall service life of the equipment.

AMCA publishes separate standards covering balance quality and vibration levels for fans, which shows how important these factors are in industrial fan engineering.

Inspection Before Shipment

Before delivery, we inspect the fan's appearance, dimensions, rotation direction, assembly, and operating condition according to the confirmed technical requirements.

For customized equipment, we also check the agreed configuration and accessories before the fan is packed.

5. Applications of 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fans

Our 310S stainless steel centrifugal fan is mainly considered for industrial applications where high-temperature air or process gas is involved. The exact suitability depends on temperature, gas composition, airflow, pressure, and operating time.

Industrial Furnace Equipment

Furnaces generate high-temperature air and gases, and their ventilation systems often require materials that can withstand heat for long periods.

310S is widely used as a heat-resistant stainless steel in furnace-related equipment, so it can be considered for suitable fan construction and hot-gas handling applications.

Kiln Systems

Kilns used in cement, ceramics, thermal processing, and other industries can create demanding temperature conditions. Fans may be used for combustion air, exhaust, circulation, cooling, or process ventilation.

For kiln applications, I always recommend providing the actual gas temperature and process description. A kiln fan may handle different conditions at different points in the system.

Heat Treatment Equipment

Heat treatment systems require controlled heating and airflow. Fans may circulate hot air inside the process or remove hot gases from the equipment.

Because the fan may operate at elevated temperature for long periods, material selection, thermal expansion, motor protection, and bearing arrangement all need attention.

Boiler and Thermal Energy Systems

Boiler and thermal energy equipment may require combustion air, induced draft, exhaust, or process ventilation. Our industrial fan product range includes High-Temperature Fans and induced draft fans for different industrial requirements.

The correct fan depends on the gas temperature, airflow, pressure, dust content, and system configuration.

Coating and Drying Equipment

Coating lines and drying equipment often use heated air. The fan may circulate hot air or exhaust process gases from the equipment.

Our company has developed and improved coating fans and environmental protection fans for many years. This experience helps us understand that coating equipment is often a combination of airflow, temperature, exhaust treatment, and production process requirements.

Cement Industry

Cement production involves high temperatures, dust, and demanding process conditions. Stainless steel and heat-resistant fan materials may be considered for selected high-temperature sections depending on the gas composition and temperature.

Chemical Processing

Chemical systems can involve hot process gases, moisture, and corrosive substances. 310S may be suitable for some hot-gas applications, but the chemical composition must be reviewed before material confirmation.

I would never recommend selecting a stainless steel grade based only on the word "chemical." The exact gas matters.

Thermal and Energy Equipment

Heat recovery, thermal processing, industrial heating, and energy conversion equipment can require fans that operate under elevated temperatures.

310S is commonly used in high-temperature industrial equipment, including heat exchangers, boilers, furnace equipment, and energy-related applications.

6. How We Manufacture and Inspect a 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan

A high-temperature fan needs careful manufacturing because temperature changes affect the complete machine. At our factory, we start with the working condition and then work toward the fan configuration.

Step 1: Understand the Process

Before manufacturing, we review the application. We need to know what the fan is doing and what kind of gas it will handle.

For a hot-air system, we ask about the normal temperature and any possible temperature peaks. We also want to know whether the gas contains moisture, dust, chemicals, solvents, or other substances.

Step 2: Confirm Airflow and Pressure

Airflow tells us how much gas needs to move. Pressure tells us how much resistance the fan needs to overcome.

These two values are the foundation of fan selection.

ANSI/AMCA 210-25 specifically identifies airflow, pressure, power, air density, rotational speed, and efficiency as key aerodynamic performance parameters for laboratory testing.

Step 3: Select the Material

Once we understand the temperature and gas condition, we confirm whether 310S is suitable for the application.

For a hot and relatively dry gas, the high-temperature properties of 310S can make it a practical choice. For a hot, wet, or chemically aggressive gas, we need to look more carefully at corrosion behavior.

Step 4: Design the Fan Configuration

The fan configuration can include the casing, impeller, shaft, motor, drive arrangement, inlet, outlet, base, bearings, and other components.

High-temperature applications may require special attention to how heat reaches the motor and bearings. The fan should not be treated as a simple steel box with a motor attached.

Step 5: Manufacturing and Assembly

Our production process includes component manufacturing, welding, machining where required, assembly, and inspection.

Stainless steel components need appropriate fabrication practices. At the same time, the rotating assembly must be aligned and balanced so that the fan can operate smoothly.

Step 6: Final Inspection

Before shipment, we inspect the appearance, dimensions, rotation direction, assembly, and operating condition according to the confirmed order requirements.

For non-standard fans, we pay additional attention to the agreed dimensions, connection positions, motor configuration, accessories, and other project details.

7. Technical Performance: What Buyers Should Really Compare

When comparing two 310S stainless steel centrifugal fans, I recommend looking beyond the material name.

Two fans may both use 310S stainless steel but have completely different operating performance because their impeller designs, speeds, motors, pressure points, airflow requirements, and system arrangements are different.

For this reason, a good comparison should include the working point rather than simply comparing motor power.

Comparison ItemWhy It MattersWhat We Normally Confirm
AirflowDetermines the volume of gas movedRequired operating airflow
PressureDetermines the fan's ability to overcome system resistanceRequired pressure at operating point
TemperatureAffects materials and componentsNormal and maximum process temperature
EfficiencyRelates airflow and pressure to power inputFan operating point and efficiency data
SpeedAffects airflow, pressure, noise, and mechanical loadRequired rotational speed
PowerDetermines motor capacitySelected motor power and electrical supply
System EffectInstallation can affect actual performanceDuct layout, elbows, transitions, dampers, equipment

Source: ANSI/AMCA 210-25 / ASHRAE 51-25 and ISO 5801:2017 cover recognized methods and concepts for fan aerodynamic performance. ISO/TR 16219:2024 addresses the difference between standardized test performance and actual installed system effects.

One common mistake is to compare fans using only the maximum airflow shown in a catalogue. Maximum airflow alone does not tell you how the fan will perform when connected to a real duct system.

A more useful comparison is the operating point: the airflow and pressure that the fan must deliver in the actual application.

This is especially important for high-temperature applications because changing gas temperature can also affect gas density and therefore fan performance. This is one reason standardized fan test methods define test conditions carefully. ISO 5801 provides rules and procedures for determining fan performance and for converting test results within specified limits for changes in speed and handled gas.

8. Why Choose Shangyang for a 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan?

There are many Industrial Fan Manufacturers in the market. From my perspective, the real difference is not only the factory size or product catalog. It is whether the manufacturer understands how to connect the fan to the customer's actual process.

Zhejiang Shangyang Industrial Fan Co., Ltd. is a national high-tech enterprise and a small- and medium-sized technology enterprise. Our sales company is located in Shanghai, China, while our manufacturing factory is located at No. 6-8, Bifa Road, Xinbi Subdistrict, Jinyun County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province.

Our fan technology design, manufacturing, and sales teams have around 20 years of experience.

Over more than a decade, we have continuously improved products based on research and development experience with coating fans and environmental protection fans. This has given us practical experience with ventilation systems used in coating, environmental protection, thermal energy, chemical processing, cement, food, printing, kiln, and other industrial applications.

Our factory manufactures many types of industrial fans, including:

We also manufacture non-standard industrial fans. That matters because high-temperature process equipment often has special requirements that cannot be solved by simply selecting a standard catalog model.

Our company has obtained multiple national test reports for specialized products and has successively obtained national explosion-proof certification, energy efficiency certification, and other certifications for applicable products.

We follow a simple working philosophy: quality first and customer requirements as the basis for the work.

In practical terms, this means we prefer to confirm the application before production. If the gas temperature is unclear, we ask. If the pressure requirement is unclear, we ask. If the installation dimensions are unusual, we review them. If the customer wants 310S because the application is hot, we still check whether 310S is actually appropriate for the gas.

That may take a little more time at the beginning, but it can save much more time later.

Production Cycle, Delivery, Payment, Transportation and Packaging

Production Cycle

The production cycle of a 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan depends on the fan model, airflow, pressure, temperature, material configuration, motor power, drive arrangement, order quantity, and customization requirements.

Standard configurations normally have a relatively shorter lead time. Customized fans require additional technical confirmation and manufacturing time.

For this reason, we do not give the same lead time to every project. Once the technical parameters and quantity are confirmed, we can provide a more realistic production schedule.

Delivery Standard

Before delivery, we inspect the fan according to the confirmed technical requirements. The inspection includes appearance, dimensions, rotation direction, assembly condition, and operating condition.

For customized equipment, we also check the agreed accessories, connection dimensions, motor arrangement, and other project-specific details.

Payment Method

For international orders, payment is typically made by T/T according to the sales contract. The exact deposit, balance, payment schedule, and commercial terms are confirmed before production.

Transportation

We can arrange transportation according to the equipment size and customer's destination. Road, sea, and rail transportation can all be considered.

For large industrial fans and overseas orders, sea transportation is often practical. For domestic projects or urgent requirements, road or rail transportation may be more suitable.

Packaging

Packaging depends on the fan size and shipping conditions. We commonly use protective film, wooden crates, steel frames, or reinforced packaging where appropriate.

The main purpose is to protect the casing, motor, shaft, bearings, inlet, outlet, and other important components during handling and transportation.

Frequently Asked Questions About 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fans

What is the main advantage of 310S stainless steel?

The main advantage is its suitability for high-temperature service. 310S is an austenitic heat-resistant stainless steel with good oxidation resistance and useful mechanical strength at elevated temperatures. It is widely considered for high-temperature equipment such as furnaces, heat exchangers, boilers, and cement-related equipment.

Can a 310S stainless steel centrifugal fan handle very high temperatures?

The answer depends on the complete fan configuration. 310S itself can be used at high temperatures, and published material data provides application guidance up to around 1050°C under specified conditions. However, this does not mean a complete centrifugal fan can operate at 1050°C. Motor, bearings, seals, shaft, lubrication, thermal expansion, gas composition, and fan structure must all be considered.

Is 310S better than 304 stainless steel for high-temperature applications?

For high-temperature service, 310S is generally the more appropriate grade to consider because it is specifically designed as a heat-resistant stainless steel. The correct grade still depends on the actual process. 304 and 310S are not interchangeable simply because both are stainless steels.

Can this fan be used in a kiln?

Yes, it can be considered for suitable kiln applications such as hot-gas exhaust, process ventilation, or other air-moving duties. The actual temperature, airflow, pressure, dust level, gas composition, and installation arrangement should be confirmed before selecting the fan.

Can the fan be used in a furnace?

Yes. Furnace equipment is one of the typical high-temperature applications associated with 310S stainless steel. However, the fan configuration must be selected according to the actual furnace process and temperature.

Can 310S be used for corrosive gases?

It depends on the gas. 310S provides good high-temperature corrosion and oxidation resistance in suitable conditions, but it should not be treated as a universal corrosion-resistant material. If the gas contains aggressive chemicals, moisture, or high concentrations, we need to review the exact composition and operating condition first.

Can you manufacture a customized 310S stainless steel centrifugal fan?

Yes. Our factory manufactures both standard and non-standard industrial fans. We can review requirements such as airflow, pressure, temperature, material, motor power, drive arrangement, dimensions, connection direction, and installation conditions.

What information should I provide for a fan quotation?

The most useful information includes airflow, pressure, gas type, gas temperature, dust or particle content, operating hours, installation dimensions, motor requirements, voltage and frequency, inlet and outlet dimensions, and any special material requirements.

How do you check the fan before delivery?

We inspect the appearance, dimensions, rotation direction, assembly, and operating condition according to the confirmed order and technical requirements. For customized products, we also check the agreed configuration and accessories.

How long does production take?

Production time depends on the fan specification, material, motor, quantity, and customization requirements. Standard products normally have a shorter lead time, while customized fans require additional engineering and manufacturing time.

What payment method do you accept?

International orders are typically settled by T/T according to the sales contract. The specific payment terms are confirmed before production.

How is the fan packaged?

Depending on the equipment size and transportation method, we use protective film, wooden crates, steel frames, or reinforced packaging. The casing, motor, shaft, bearings, and other important parts receive particular attention during packaging.

Can you arrange overseas shipping?

Yes. We can work with road, sea, or rail transportation depending on the destination, fan size, delivery requirements, and customer preference.

How I Recommend Choosing a 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan

If you are currently comparing several 310S stainless steel Centrifugal Fan Manufacturers, I recommend taking a practical approach.

First, tell the manufacturer the actual temperature. Do not simply say "high temperature." Give the normal temperature and, if possible, the highest expected temperature.

Second, explain what gas the fan will handle. Clean hot air is very different from hot air containing dust, moisture, solvents, acids, or other chemicals.

Third, provide the airflow requirement.

Fourth, provide the pressure requirement or the complete duct and equipment information if pressure has not yet been calculated.

Fifth, tell us how long the fan will run every day. Continuous operation is different from occasional operation.

Sixth, provide the installation dimensions. A technically correct fan that cannot fit the existing equipment is not a useful solution.

Finally, ask the manufacturer how the motor and other components will be protected from the heat. This is often overlooked. The stainless steel casing may be able to handle a high-temperature gas, but the motor and bearings may have very different temperature limits.

For this reason, I always look at the complete system when selecting a high Temperature Centrifugal Fan.

Conclusion

The 310S Stainless Steel Centrifugal Fan is designed for industrial applications where heat-resistant construction and stable centrifugal airflow are important. 310S stainless steel offers good oxidation resistance and high-temperature mechanical performance, making it a practical material for suitable furnace, kiln, heat treatment, thermal energy, cement, coating, and other industrial applications.

But the material is only one part of the solution.

A reliable industrial fan needs to be selected around the complete operating condition. Airflow, pressure, temperature, gas composition, operating time, motor, bearings, drive arrangement, installation, and system resistance all matter.

At Zhejiang Shangyang Industrial Fan Co., Ltd., we have around 20 years of experience in fan technology design, manufacturing, and sales. We produce standard and non-standard industrial fans and supply equipment for coating, kiln, boiler, environmental protection, dust collection, thermal energy, printing, coating equipment, medical latex, air-supported membrane, separation, cement, chemical, food, and other industries.

Our approach is straightforward. We first understand what the customer needs the fan to do, then select the appropriate configuration and material, manufacture the equipment, inspect it before delivery, and arrange packaging and transportation according to the project requirements.

If you are looking for a 310S stainless steel centrifugal fan manufacturer for a furnace, kiln, drying system, coating line, thermal process, chemical system, or industrial exhaust application, send us the available airflow, pressure, gas type, temperature, installation dimensions, motor requirements, and other technical information.

We can review the working condition and help determine whether a 310S stainless steel centrifugal fan is the right choice for your application.
